What I thought: The start to the EPIC Throne of Glass series by Sarah J.Maas. I cried bucket loads reading this series, it tore me apart but ooft I loved it and is a repeat read series of mine. Full disclosure - when I first read this book it took me a while to purchase the second and keep going. Why? I didn’t really connect to the characters and found the love interests wanting. I should have kept the faith with SJM and kept going much sooner than I did! The second book was fantastic, and the third even better. This series is epic on such a large scale, it will wrench at your emotions but it is so worth it.
